FAFG — Institutional 2D Animation Video Series
For the Forensic Anthropology Foundation of Guatemala (FAFG), we produced a series of institutional videos using 2D animation and motion graphics to communicate the organization’s work in a clear, respectful, and accessible way. FAFG applies forensic science to investigate, search, exhume, and identify victims of Guatemala’s Internal Armed Conflict, making it essential to convey both the scientific process and its human impact.
The objective of the project was to translate complex and sensitive topics into engaging visual narratives that could be easily understood by diverse audiences, including the communities directly connected to the organization’s work. The approach focused on balancing educational clarity with emotional sensitivity, ensuring that the content remained informative while honoring the context. The process began with the development of detailed storyboards and narrative structures, where we defined how to communicate each stage of the forensic work—from investigation and fieldwork to identification—through a simplified and coherent storyline. Emphasis was placed on storytelling as a tool to connect viewers with both the scientific and human dimensions of the work.
Using Adobe Illustrator, After Effects, and Premiere, we created a system of custom 2D illustrations and motion graphics animations. The visual style was designed to be direct, friendly, and culturally representative, incorporating elements that resonate with the communities where FAFG operates, while maintaining clarity and professionalism. The animation approach prioritizes clear visual hierarchy, smooth transitions, and intuitive graphic elements, helping to explain processes that are often technical or unfamiliar. Through thoughtful editing and pacing, each video guides the viewer step by step, ensuring comprehension without oversimplifying the subject matter.
The final result is a series of impactful institutional and educational videos, optimized for digital platforms, presentations, and outreach initiatives, supporting FAFG’s mission through visual storytelling, motion graphics, and accessible science communication. These videos serve as tools for awareness, education, and connection between the organization and the communities it serves.
