Democracks — Motion Graphics for Civic Education App
For Democracks, a digital initiative developed by Jóvenes+D in collaboration with the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD), we created a series of 2D motion graphics animations designed for the introductory and closing sequences of the application. The app focuses on democratic values, civic participation, and political education, and is aimed at teenagers and young adults seeking accessible and engaging ways to learn about democratic processes.
The objective of the project was to develop a set of animated visual elements that would establish a clear and appealing visual tone for the platform. Since the application addresses topics such as citizenship, participation, and democratic dialogue, the animations needed to feel dynamic, approachable, and contemporary, connecting with younger audiences while maintaining clarity and educational value. The process began with the development of storyboards, defining the structure, pacing, and visual transitions for both the opening and closing sequences. These storyboards helped establish how the animations would introduce the platform and reinforce its message at the end of each interaction, ensuring a cohesive user experience within the app.
Using Adobe Illustrator, we created a series of custom graphic elements and illustrations aligned with the visual identity of the project. These assets were then animated in After Effects, where we developed fluid 2D motion graphics sequences that combine color, typography, and movement to communicate energy and accessibility. The animations were carefully timed to function seamlessly within the app interface while maintaining a clean and engaging aesthetic. The final assembly and optimization of the video sequences were completed in Premiere, ensuring that the animations were delivered in formats suitable for integration within the digital platform.
The resulting animations serve as a visual introduction and conclusion to the Democracks app, helping establish a consistent and engaging tone for users. Through the use of motion graphics, storytelling, and animation, the project contributes to making complex democratic topics more approachable and visually engaging for a younger generation interested in civic participation and social change.
