PurpleAir — Air Quality Monitoring Tutorial Videos

For Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and CONAP, we developed a series of motion graphics tutorial videos for the implementation and use of PurpleAir sensors, a technology that enables communities to monitor and share hyper-local air quality data. The goal of the project was to create clear, engaging, and accessible educational content that empowers users in Guatemala to understand and effectively operate the sensors.

The process began with the development of a structured storyboard, where we defined the narrative flow and simplified technical information into easy-to-follow steps. Each video was carefully designed to guide users through key processes—from installation and setup to data interpretation—ensuring clarity at every stage. Using Adobe Illustrator, After Effects, and Premiere, we created a series of custom motion graphics animations that combine informative visuals with a friendly and approachable tone. The visual style focuses on clean design, intuitive iconography, and smooth animation, making complex environmental data and technical instructions easier to understand.

Special attention was given to user comprehension and engagement, balancing educational accuracy with an accessible and visually appealing approach. By incorporating clear visual cues, dynamic transitions, and simplified graphics, the videos help demystify the technology and encourage active participation in community-based environmental monitoring. The final result is a series of high-quality tutorial and explainer videos optimized for digital distribution, supporting environmental awareness, citizen science, and public access to air quality data. These videos serve as practical tools for training and education, reinforcing the impact of collaborative efforts between technology, conservation organizations, and local communities.
